Casey Curtis, Fire Chief

The Granville Township Fire Department (GTFD), is operated by the Granville Township Board of Trustees.  The GTFD serves Granville Township including the Village of Granville and Denison University.  It also serves a major portion of  McKean Township under a contractual agreement.  The Department is funded by Granville Township fire levies (4.8 mills) as well as contract fees from McKean. The department also utilizes in kind donations from Denison University, EMS billing and federal, state and local grants to supplement property tax generated revenue.

Casey Curtis, a 25+ year career firefighter/paramedic, is the Granville Township Fire Chief. The GTFD is staffed with a combination of career, intermittently scheduled, and paid on-call members. Paid staffing is scheduled to maintain six personnel on duty at all times, twenty-four hours a day. There are currently 13 career firefighter/paramedics, plus 23 intermittent firefighter/paramedics, and 5 paid on-call firefighter/EMTs and paramedics. Fire code enforcement and prevention is handled by a part-time fire inspector working under the direction of the Fire Chief.

The Department fleet consists of a 1500 Gallons-Per-Minute (GPM) with Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) pumper, a 1500 GPM with CAFS rescue/pumper with a full complement of auto extrication, high-angle rope, water and ice equipment, a 93-foot aerial platform, and an 2000 gallon tanker. Additional apparatus consists of two advanced life support ambulances, grass truck, UTV and two staff vehicles.

The GTFD is proud to have an ISO rating of Class 2/2Y placing them in the top 3.5% of fire departments across the country. The rating is based on many factors but the 4 key elements are – the department’s ability to receive and respond to fire alarms; the fire department’s first-alarm response and initial attack capabilities; the water supply system; and divergence, which is defined as the disparity between the effectiveness of the fire department and water supply scores.

The GTFD performs life safety fire inspections in partnership with the Licking County Building Code Dept. for all new and remodel commercial buildings. Annual inspections are also performed and a pre-inspection checklist is available here for all local business.
